Study of a group of artists who established their studios in and around the district of London's Holland Park, the Holland Park Circle, during the second half of the nineteenth century. The circle was formed around G.F. Watts, Frederic Leighton and Valentine Prinsep, their work commanded high prices. Their lives, works and influence is described. Attention is given to the artistic environment, their carefully designed studio-houses, their cultivated social network of fellow artists and patrons, the relationships between high Victorian taste and mercantile values.
